Welcome to the first Technique Tuesday here at Artful Geek Girl! Technique Tuesday will be a monthly feature where we explore…what else… specific arts and crafts techniques. This month we’re tackling a pretty cool process for transferring a design from a Gelli plate onto packing tape which can then be used easily in cardmaking, art journals and other papercrafts.
The Gelli plate is relatively new to me. I purchased the small 3 x 5 size a few months ago and admittedly haven’t done too much with it as of yet. I just happened to stumble on this technique for pulling the paint design from the Gelli plate to packing tape and it was just too cool. I had to try it and see if
a. it was as easy as it looked and
b. if it looked as awesome in person as it did in the YouTube videos (aka, could a novice like me get gorgeous results).
You can see exactly how it went in the video below (a materials list can be found beneath the video.)
The hardest part of this technique was waiting for the paint layers to dry completely. If you work on another project at the same time you can just lay down a layer, set it aside to dry and work on the alternate project, which helped me with my impatience.
Have you tried the Gelli Plate to Packing Tape transfer technique yet? If so, what did you think? Are there other techniques you’d like to see featured on Technique Tuesday? Let me know in the comments!
